CD Review | Eliza Neals – Breaking And Entering
Album | Breaking And Entering
Artist | Eliza Neals
Label |E-H Records
It’s been quite a week for the ‘Detroit Diva’. She won the award for Outstanding Blues Recording at the prestigious Detroit Music Awards on Friday, and now she’s heading to the UK for a 7 date tour which will see her bring her distinctive, gutsy style of Blues Rock to London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Sutton, Manchester and Cardiff.
Eliza Neal’s 6th full album, ‘Breaking And Entering’ was released in the US in February 2015, and is now getting a renewed push this side of the pond to coincide with the tour. It’s an album I’ve played quite a bit on Soul of The Blues, filled as it is with radio-friendly tracks that don’t fail to deliver the goods.
The musicianship is exceptional – particularly from the renowned blues guitarist Howard Glazer. Then there’s featured guest guitarist Kenny Olson (Kid Rock) on 2 songs – ‘Southern Comfort Dreams’ and ‘You’, and the driving drums of Gabe Gonzelez.
Its the songwriting that really marks this album out though, Eliza was mentored in the art by Motown legend Barrett Strong, and has crafted twelve songs that exude maturity and provide perfect vehicles for her impressive vocal talents – at times raucous, at times sultry, and on the opening track ‘Detroit Drive’ both simultaneously – quite a feat.
Eliza Neals’ talents are many and various, she’s an accomplished blues-rock & soul vocalist, recording artist, composer, performer, publisher and producer – skills that are all used to great effect on this outstanding high-energy album which establishes her at the forefront of the ‘New Blues’ renaissance.
The UK is in for a treat, catch her on tour if you can.
